The Energy Resource Appeal Tribunal (ERAT) was established under the Oil and Gas Activities Act, as amended in 2023 by the Energy Statutes Amendment Act, 2023. The ERAT has the authority to decide appeals of certain decisions made by the by the British Columbia Energy Regulator.
The ERAT strives to provide timely and efficient access to justice for individuals, organizations, and businesses pursuing their rights of appeal in British Columbia. The ERAT seeks to be responsive and sensitive to the needs of those involved in appeals.
While members are spread throughout the province, the ERAT’s office is located in and core operations are performed in the traditional territory of the Lekwungen People, now known as the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations. The ERAT honours the welcome of these Nations, and their long history of environmental management and sustainable resource development in their territory.
